The principle of home insemination

Home insemination is a non-medicalised reproductive technique where a syringe containing sperm is inserted into the future mother's uterus without the need for sexual intercourse. This technique is accessible to many people as the only costs are for the equipment needed to collect the semen and for the insemination itself. However, often several home inseminations are necessary to achieve pregnancy. This technique has about a 15% success rate in comparison to sexual intercourse which has almost a 30% success rate.

Home insemination: useful tips

Here are some tips to help you with home insemination, if you have already found your sperm donor:
1) The sperm donor must collect his semen in a pot (e.g. a urine sample pot). Using a new disposable syringe, suck up the semen ready to be inseminated into the receiving uterus.
2) When ovulating the recipient should lie on her back with her knees bent and thighs open to receive the donor's sperm.
3) It is often the future mother's partner's job to delicately insert the syringe into her uterus.
4) To increase the home insemination's chances of success, the recipient must then remain with her legs in a raised position for about 30 minutes.
At this stage, the success rate is quite low, it is therefore recommended to perform several home inseminations during ovulation.
