Hi, am new here and have probably missed the key information so ...sorry.

My burning question is how do we know the donors are safe? How can we check STI etc info?

Once again, sorry if I have missed something really obvious.

HI
your donor should provide you a recent certificate from the clinic to prove he is clean from STD's
and it is your responsibility to double check his personal detail (ID) and the dates on his certificate.
and try to go for a A.I donor to stay safe.
